Now wait... HOW MUCH!?

Alright, so I've been in this thing where I'm buying a bunch of Bridal magazines! In one of them, I got this cool little booklet that says what is all needed for a wedding and gives you places where you get to put the price in and so on and so forth...

There is also a spot that gives the estimated amount for a wedding. 

$19,375.

Now! Subtract $3,000 for the honeymoon and $1,500 for the wedding planner (I'm doing this myself, damnit!) and that leaves me with... 

$14,885.

So, roughly 15K for a wedding. /15K/!!!!

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!

My girlfriend Rachel is planning her wedding now and will be getting married this May. Her total cost for the wedding, roughly around $3000-$4000 I think. What about other people? Those of you who are married and actually have a ceremony or are going to have one? What's the prices look like, if you don't mind me asking.

I just can't believe how expensive! I mean... I guess I can, but SERIOUSLY! Holy COW!

I don't know any exact numbers, but the ASM at the Starbucks I work at just got married, and I believe it was around 3-4k. And I know that another girl I work with, her parents went all out and slapped down 20k.

And then back when my dad worked at a hotel, he had a guy pay $50,000 for his daughter's wedding...

My parents may have been 1-2 thousand. (They eloped, then had a reception thing a week or so later)

I know some people actually take out personal loans to pay for them.

I really don't know how it works there but here in italy most of money goes for food.
after the ceremony there is a big lunch/dinner either in a restaurant or in some "villa" rented for the day and the whole thing (location+food+service) can cost A LOT, like thousands euros, depends on how many people attended your wedding (which are rarely less than one hundred), basically =/
but I have the feeling we tend to invite slightly more people than you do, so I'm not sure what most of the money is spent for there =)

anyhow in italy a cheap one is around €15000, honeymoon included. and then politicians wonder why people don't get married anymore and prefer to simply live together!!

Over here the general rule is that food is half of your budget.

*laughs* Most weddings are around $30K right now.

Lemme see, dresses can go anywhere from $100-$10K+. Very big part of the price dealie.

I think that ours will end up at about $8K when all is said and done, but I'm not entirely sure yet.

We're getting married in a local planetarium for $300. (Yea!) So I'm getting married under the stars in the middle of the morning. Might think about some off the wall places like that for a location... though I know that you two will have no issues with that.

Our reception will be about $4K and that's only because we aren't serving alcohol. Alcohol would add another roughly $4K into the mix and we just don't have that (and our reception is on the property of the school district, so it's illegal on top of that). My dress was about $100, but my mother made it. Our rings were $1700ish. Flowers will be just over $300 (Everyone's is $8 except for mine which is $125, but I think we're going to tone it down some). Lemme think, bridesmaids dresses were $114 each (but I got a 40% off family discount since my cousin runs a bridal shop). Invitations we still have to get, but we're printing those ourselves and taking them around for. Oh, there's probably other things that I'm forgetting but...

The price of a wedding depends on what you decide that you want I would advise one thing though. Don't skimp on the photographer and the rings. I'm not saying this because my dad is a photographer. If you think about it, the two things that you will have from your wedding for the rest of your life are the rings and the photographs. It pays to hire a good photographer so that your memories of the day are preserved forever.

The most expensive part of the wedding is always the reception. Reception halls cost a lot and are hard to book. On top of that, they need to be decorated and food costs quite a lot. Family style is cheaper than single plates, buffet is cheaper than family style. Also, an open bar is really expensive, so you may want to charge for drinks.

I have more advise if you are interested. Just stop by some time and pick my brain.

When I was planning my wedding, before i eloped, which i recommend because it is way cheaper, we were planning on spending $12000 including the honeymoon. minus that, it was $8000. but my husband's stepfather's mother runs a dj and photography service and we were getting that for free. honestly amber, if i were you, and were going to be doing the big wedding, i would look at memories on ll between belgium and port for a reception hall. food is included in the price, but remember, the price depends on how many people you invite to the dinner. so your first step should really be to get an estimate on how many people you are going to be inviting to the ceremony, the dinner, and to the reception after dinner.
